Sheriff’s detectives were searching Monday for a 61-year-old man who went missing while paddle boarding in Castaic Lake.
Espiridion Philip (“Speedy”) Camez was last seen at 12:30 p.m. Sunday while paddleboarding with a woman at the lake in the 32000 block of Castaic Lake Drive, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Both Camez and the woman were knocked off their boards during high winds. The woman, who was wearing a safety vest, was rescued from the water, but Camez, who was not wearing a personal floatation device, was not and has remained missing.
Sheriff’s personnel were at the lake Monday conducting a search in the lake’s lower lagoon area, which is connected but separated from the main lake and has maximum depth of 70 feet.
Initial reports said the duo were in kayaks, but that information was later corrected to paddle boards.
Camez is described as Hispanic, 5 feet 6 inches tall, 210 pounds, with black hair and hazel eyes. He was wearing a black tank top, blue shorts and white water shoes when last seen.
Anyone with information that might help locate Camez was asked to call the sheriff’s Missing Persons Detail at 323-890-5500 or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.
