Police Tuesday were investigating the fatal shooting of a young woman last night in Costa Mesa.
Officers responded at about 11:10 p.m. Monday to a report of shots fired and a person wounded in the 1500 block of Lukup Lane, according to Public Affairs Manager Roxi Fyad of the Costa Mesa Police Department.
“Officers found a 20-year-old Huntington Beach woman on the sidewalk suffering from several apparent gunshot wounds,” Fyad said.
Officers rendered aid until Costa Mesa Fire & Rescue crews arrived and took the woman to a hospital, where she later died, according to Fyad.
The victim was known to the suspect, who remains at large, Fyad said. She was identified as Monseratt Colorado, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.
A description of the suspect was not immediately available.
Anyone with information about the killing was urged to call the detectives investigating the case at 714-754-5392 or 714-754-5352.
