A 64-year-old man was killed a single-vehicle crash into a wall in Long Beach Monday, and authorities said speed is suspected as a factor.

The crash occurred at about 12:25 a.m. Monday in the area of Seventh Street and Margo Avenue, near the Veterans Administration Hospital and the Cal State Long Beach campus, according to Lt. David Frazier of the Long Beach Police Department.

According to the preliminary investigation, the victim was driving a Ford Mustang west on Seventh “‘at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control of the vehicle and veered off the road, colliding with a wall.”

The motorist was in full cardiac arrest when officers and firefighters arrived at the scene. Lifesaving measures were performed but the driver was pronounced dead at the scene, Frazier said.

The man was later identified by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner as Darryl Harrison.

Anyone who may have witnessed the collision was urged to contact LBPD Collision Investigation Detail Det. David Dougherty at 562-570-7358.
