A man was shot and wounded while inside his vehicle early Friday morning in Long Beach, but he refused to cooperate with the police investigation.

Officers were sent to the 1000 block of Gaviota Avenue around 1:45 a.m. Friday to investigate a report that someone had been shot, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

The officers arrived to find a man with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds to his upper body, and Long Beach Fire Department personnel took him a hospital, police said.

The apparent victim told police he was in his vehicle when someone he did not know approached, opened fire and struck him, then fled.

“The victim was uncooperative in providing additional details of the incident,” according to a police statement. “Suspect information and the motive for the shooting are under investigation.”
