A 12-year-old boy was killed Wednesday when the vehicle he was in struck a parked van in Sherman Oaks.
The crash was reported at 10:17 a.m. Wednesday in the 4400 block of North Woodman Avenue, near Moorpark Avenue south of the Ventura (101) Freeway, said Margaret Stewart of the Los Angeles Fire Department. It was unclear how fast the vehicle was moving when it hit the parked vehicle, which was described as a moving van.
The boy, who was a passenger in the front seat, was pronounced dead at the scene, she said.
Three other people were taken to a hospital, according to Stewart, who said two people — a woman and 10-year-old boy — were not injured but transported as standard protocol in fatality cases.
A third person was transported for medical reasons, but was not involved in the crash, Stewart said.
Los Angeles police and the mayor’s crisis management team were at the scene assisting the victim’s family, she said.
The crash is under police investigation.
