A 52-year-old man has pleaded guilty and was sentenced to six years in prison for fatally stabbing a transient in Fullerton, according to court records obtained Friday.
David Vargas Carrillo pleaded guilty Wednesday to a felony count of voluntary manslaughter in a plea deal that dismissed a murder charge with a sentencing enhancement for personal use of a deadly weapon.
Carrillo fatally stabbed 42-year-old Sterling Werner on Sept. 14, 2021, in the 200 block of South Basque Avenue, police said.
Police were called to the area at 1:07 a.m. that day and found the victim on the ground in a parking lot, police said.
Carrillo was given credit for 1,452 days behind bars awaiting trial.
