A 30-year-old man who was fatally struck by a driver in downtown Los Angeles was identified by county authorities Friday.
Los Angeles Police Department officers were called at 1:53 a.m. Saturday to the intersection of South Main and East Seventh streets regarding a collision that left the victim, Matthew Himendigger, trapped underneath a Toyota Prius, an LAPD spokesman told City News Service.
Himendigger was pulled from underneath the Prius and taken to a hospital by Los Angeles Fire Department personnel, where he was later pronounced dead, police said. According to reports from the scene, Himendigger was dragged at least a block before the Prius came to a stop.
The driver of the Prius was suspected of hitting Himendigger and was arrested at the scene on suspicion of driving under the influence, police said.
