Sheriff’s homicide detectives Friday continued investigating the fatal shooting of one man and the wounding of two others in the Florence-Firestone neighborhood near South Los Angeles.
Deputies responded at 11:41 a.m. Thursday to the 9000 block of Compton Avenue to investigate reports of a shooting. Two victims were found suffering from gunshot wounds, and one was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.
The second victim was taken to a hospital and was in stable condition on Friday, officials said.
While sheriff’s department and Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel were responding to the call, Los Angeles Police Department officers responded to a report of a gunshot victim in the 9200 block of Compton Avenue, according to the sheriff’s department.
“Upon their arrival, they located an additional gunshot victim,” according to a department news release. “The victim was transported by fire personnel to a local hospital where he is listed in critical but stable condition.”
The investigation revealed that two suspects approached the first two victims as they were seated in a vehicle and a fight broke out when the suspects attempted to rob or carjack the vehicle. One suspect drew a handgun and shot both victims before both suspects fled, the sheriff’s department reported.
“When the occupants of a second vehicle stopped to investigate and or render aid to the victims, the suspects carjacked them,” officials stated.
The suspects then drove from the scene, and were last seen heading north on Compton Avenue.
The carjacked vehicle is described as a light-colored Acura.
