Three people were injured Wednesday — one who reportedly lost a limb — when a tanker truck rear-ended a car carrier on the San Diego (405) Freeway in Brentwood.

The collision occurred at approximately 2:15 a.m. Wednesday on the southbound freeway and the Getty Center off-ramp, where California Highway Patrol officers found a white utility truck, a gray Jeep and the semi-truck blocking two lanes after colliding with each other, CHP Officer Ramon Kendricks told City News Service.

A Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman said 10 of its units responded to the location after getting a report that a tanker truck had rear-ended a car carrier.

A 53-yerar-old man, was reported to have suffered a severed leg, but no further details were available, the fire department’s Lyndsey Lantz said.

All three victims were taken from the scene in separate ambulances. Two of them, a 59-year-old man and a 34-year-old man, were in at least serious condition, though both were able to walk on their own, Lantz said.

The crash closed the numbers three, four and five lanes of the southbound freeway while the CHP investigated the cause of the accident. All lanes were reopened and the associated Sigalert was canceled at about 7:20 a.m., according to the CHP.

The crash occurred on the same stretch of freeway where Los Angeles Police Department Sgt. Shiou Deng and 34-year-old Jesus Garcia were struck by a vehicle and killed on June 23 after Deng stopped and exited his patrol vehicle to assist Garcia, whose car had broken down.
