A man was shot in a parking lot in Long Beach Sunday morning, authorities said.

The victim self-transported to a hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the upper body, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

Officers dispatched at about 4:50 a.m. Sunday to the 100 block of Pacific Coast Highway reported that a group of people were in a parking lot when they were approached by a suspect vehicle.

“A male adult suspect exited the vehicle and discharged a firearm, striking a male adult victim,” according to a police statement. “Officers located evidence indicating a shooting had occurred. The suspect(s) fled prior to officers’ arrival.”

Suspect information and the motive for the shooting were under investigation.
