Firefighters were battling a brush fire in Laguna Beach Monday that burned about three acres and was threatening nearby homes.
The blaze broke out at around 2:30 p.m. near Rancho Laguna Road and Morningside Drive and was moving uphill, according to authorities. Crews set up to protect structures along Summit Drive and at Ensenada Avenue and Miramar Street.
Police were evacuating residents on Summit Drive as well as La Mirada and Katalla streets. An evacuation warning was issued for the Arch Beach Heights neighborhood.
An evacuation center was established at the Susi Q Center at 380 Third Street for those impacted by the Rancho Fire.
Authorities closed Broadway and South Coasts Highway and Crown Valley Parkway and Coast Highway, diverting southbound traffic to Laguna Canyon Road.
