A gathering that began as a candlelight vigil turned violent when Los Angeles Police Department officers came under attack in Hyde Park and at least eight patrol vehicles had their tires punctured.

Police were called to Crenshaw and Hyde Park boulevards at about 9:30 p.m. Monday regarding reports of a crowd blocking traffic at the intersection, KTLA5 reported.

KCAL9 reported a street takeover took place at the location and as the crowd grew, a call for backup was sent out as officers came under attack and were forced to form a skirmish line.

Fox11 reported that the vigil was being held for motorcyclist Kenny Hall, who was killed at the intersection Sunday night. Video footage showed dozens of lit candles on a nearby street.

LAPD Officer Norma Cervantes told City News Service early Tuesday that no arrests were made.

  1. Anyone that touches an officer, a unit or horse should be arrested and charged. If they are not a citizen, deport them and they can never come back. That’s why we need better people as mayor or governor of CA. All Bass and Grewsom have been doing is protected the criminal and burning down CA.
