A brush fire that broke out Thursday just east of Temecula scorched more than 20 acres and prompted a road closure before it was stopped.
The non-injury blaze was reported at 4:35 p.m. Thursday in the area of De Portola Road and Via Luisa, on the perimeter of the Glenoak Hills Community, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
The agency stated that multiple engine crews were sent to the location and encountered flames moving at a moderate rate through medium brush.
Three Cal Fire air tankers and two water-dropping helicopters initiated runs on the brusher just before 5 p.m., slowing its progress and enabling crews to begin establishing tentative containment lines.
As of 5:10 p.m., the fire’s forward rate of spread was stopped.
No homes or other structures were damaged. However, all of De Portola was shut down between Monte De Oro Road and Via Luisa, a closure spanning about a mile, for public safety.
By 5:30 p.m., all aircraft had cleared the location, and firefighters were quickly encircling the brusher.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
