A 29-year-old man who was killed when the bicycle he was riding was struck by a vehicle in the Vermont Square area of Los Angeles was identified by the county medical examiner Monday.
The crash occurred at 12:50 a.m. Sunday at Vernon Avenue and Figueroa Street, according to Los Angeles Police Department Officer Tony Im.
The rider was identified at Jonatan Perez, whose city of residence was not disclosed.
The vehicle that hit him was southbound on Figueroa and Perez was eastbound on Vernon when the collision happened, Im said.
Perez was pronounced dead at the scene.
The man driving the vehicle, believed to be in his early 30s, was in critical condition when an ambulance took him to a hospital, Im said.
A news videographer at the scene said the vehicle also crashed into two parked cars.
The cause of the crash was being investigated.
