A head-on, two-vehicle collision in the Antelope Valley community of Sun Village that killed one driver and badly injured the other was under investigation Monday.

The collision happened about 11 a.m. Saturday on Palmdale Boulevard, east of 110th Street East, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A 43-year-old La Habra man, identified by the L.A. County medical examiner’s office as Christian Solis, was headed east on Palmdale Boulevard east of 110th Street East in a Ford Mustang and was in the westbound lane passing slower traffic when he lost control of the vehicle and veered onto the dirt shoulder south of the roadway, the CHP reported.

The Ford reentered the road into the path of a 2013 GMC SUV being driven in the opposite direction by a 30-year-old Littlerock woman.

The GMC driver tried to evade the Ford, to no avail.

The head-on crash left Solis trapped. He suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The woman sustained major injuries was taken to Antelope Valley Medical Center.

A 52-year-old Cedar City, Utah, man who was a passenger in the GMC was taken to Palmdale Regional Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries, according to the CHP.
