A 36-year-old man who was struck and killed while trying to cross Pacific Coast Highway in Long Beach was identified Monday

The victim was struck by a westbound vehicle about 6:35 p.m. Sunday as he was crossing Pacific Coast Highway west of Golden Avenue, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

Long Beach Fire Department personnel pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene. He was identified on Monday by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner as Omar Tovar.

The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.

According to police, speed, distracted driving and impaired driving are not suspected as factors in the fatality.
