Authorities sought the public’s assistance Monday in locating an at-risk 63-year-old man last seen in the Playa Vista area of Los Angeles, prompting the issuance of a Silver Alert.

The California Highway Patrol activated the alert on behalf of the Los Angeles Police Department.

Rwechungula Anyabwile was last seen around 6:40 p.m. June 22 near West Jefferson Boulevard and Playa Vista Drive, according to the CHP.

Anyabwile was described as a 6-foot-1-inch-tall man weighing 195 pounds with a bald head and brown eyes. It was unclear what he was wearing when he was last seen before being reported missing.

CHP officials believe Anyabwile is traveling in a black 2017 Hyundai Sonata with California license plate 8AFS079.

Anyone with information regarding Anyabwile’s whereabouts was urged to contact 911.

The Silver Alert program was established by the CHP to issue and coordinate alerts involving the unexplained or suspicious disappearances of elderly, developmentally disabled or cognitively impaired individuals.

  1. Thank you so much for reporting on Rei’s disappearance. Unfortunately he was discovered deceased on 7/18/25. If anyone wishes to pay respects or make a donation in his honor, we have set up a campaign to fund a memorial and assist the immediate family: https://gofund.me/7f87e439
