A man was fired upon but not hit when a traffic stop went bad Thursday morning near Valinda, leaving a sheriff’s deputy injured.
The shooting occurred after deputies stopped a vehicle about 2 a.m. in the 19500 block of East Walnut Avenue.
“The suspect was not struck by gunfire,” according to a Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department news release that said one deputy sustained minor injuries and was taken to a hospital.
Earlier, LASD Deputy Daniel Dominguez told City News Service a suspect accused of assaulting a deputy with a vehicle and then barricading himself at a residence near Valinda was taken into custody after a standoff.
It is unclear why the vehicle was stopped and sheriff’s officials did not say whether more than one deputy fired at the suspect or how many shots were fired.
