A 44-year-old Irvine man made his first appearance in court Friday on charges of drugging and raping a former roommate in Irvine.

Feng Yang was charged Tuesday with kidnapping to commit a sex offense, assault with intent to commit a sex offense, assault with force likely to produce great bodily injury, two counts of attempted forcible rape, rape by use of drugs and possession of child pornography, all felonies. He also faces sentencing enhancements for administration of the anti-anxiety drug lorazepam to the victim.

Yang and the woman were former roommates who were hanging out when he allegedly drugged and raped her on Aug. 15, 2022, according to Kyle Oldoerp, a spokesman for the Irvine Police Department.

Yang did not enter a plea at his arraignment Friday in the jail courtroom. He was next due in court Aug. 8 for arraignment in the Harbor Justice Center in Newport Beach.
