A homeless man whose body was found with gunshot wounds in a riverbed near a freeway in Long Beach was identified by county authorities Monday.
The victim, Martin Segura, 40, was identified by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s office.
Officers responded at 11:15 a.m. Wednesday to assist Long Beach Fire Department personnel with a body in the bed of the Los Angeles River near the Gardena (91) Freeway.
“Upon arrival, officers located a male adult victim with a gunshot wound to the upper body,” according to a Long Beach Police Department statement.
Fire department personnel pronounced Segura dead at the scene and homicide detectives assumed the investigation.
Police said Segura “appeared to be experiencing homelessness.”
Anyone with information that could help investigators learn the circumstances surrounding Segura’s death was urged to call LBPD homicide detectives Oscar Valenzuela or Michael Hubbard at 562-570-7244.
