A woman who was reported to have been lying in the street was struck by a vehicle and left dead in South Los Angeles Tuesday morning, authorities said.
The victim was struck just after 4 a.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Western Avenue and 54th Street, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Los Angeles Fire Department personnel pronounced the woman dead at the scene. She appeared to be about 50 years old, a department spokesman said.
No description was immediately available of the vehicle that struck the woman, who police said was lying in the roadway when she was hit, before the driver continued south on Western.
The driver of a Metro bus came upon the woman and reported her down, but it was unclear if the bus was involved in the woman’s death, according to the LAFD.
