A two-vehicle collision in Thousand Palms Wednesday left one person injured and second in custody on suspicion of hit-and-run.

Deputies responded to a call regarding a suspicious circumstance at 2:52 p.m. Wednesday in the area of Pet Land Place and Rio Del Sol Drive, according to sheriff’s Lt. Deirdre Vickers. Deputies determined that a two-vehicle collision had occurred, with one of the drivers attempting to flee the location while a person from the other car jumped on the moving vehicle’s hood, Vickers said.

The person who jumped on the hood fell to the ground when the other motorist drove away from the scene. The unidentified person suffered unspecified injuries.

Deputies later found the other motorist in the area of Desert Moon Drive and El Centro Way, and the person was taken into custody without incident, Vickers said. That person also was not immediately identified.

The investigation was ongoing.
