A wildfire that erupted Thursday north of the Pomona (60) Freeway in Jurupa Valley scorched three acres before it was contained.
The non-injury blaze was reported at 4:12 p.m. Thursday in the area of Granite Hill Drive and Pedley Road, about a quarter-mile from the freeway, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
The agency said multiple engine crews were sent to the location and encountered flames moving at a slow rate across an open field, west of a subdivision.
Cal Fire air tankers were requested but cancelled a short time later as firefighters quickly deployed hose lays.
At 4:40 p.m., the brusher’s forward rate of spread was stopped, according to officials. By 5:15 p.m., the fire was 100% contained.
Crews were expected to complete mopping up before nightfall.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
