A wildfire that erupted Thursday north of the Pomona (60) Freeway in Jurupa Valley scorched just over an acre but was stopped before reaching residences.
The non-injury blaze was reported at 4:12 p.m. Thursday in the area of Granite Hill Drive and Pedley Road, about a quarter-mile from the freeway, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
The agency stated that multiple engine crews were sent to the location and encountered flames moving at a slow rate across an open field, west of a subdivision.
Cal Fire air tankers were initially requested but were canceled a short time later as firefighters quickly deployed hose lays.
At 4:40 p.m., the brusher’s forward rate of spread was stopped, according to officials. Full containment was expected before 6 p.m.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
