Neighbors of the Encinco couple, who were killed in their home by a suspect who was allegedly burglarizing the upscale residence, were speaking out Monday after a loud weekend party was shut down by police at the house next door.
The party was held on Saturday night, next door to the White Oak Place home of “American Idol” music supervisor Robin Kaye and her husband Thomas Deluca, both 70.
Raymond Boodarian, 22, of Encino has been charged with two counts of murder stemming from the deaths.
The victims’ bodies were found at about 2:30 p.m. on July 14 in the 4700 block of White Oak Place, south of Ventura Boulevard, during a welfare check prompted by a call from an acquaintance who had not heard from the couple in several days, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. The victims were found inside the home with multiple gunshot wounds.
A neighbor told reporters that a renter at her property called 911 on July 10 after seeing somebody jump over the fence around the home.
Detectives suspect that Boodarian was burglarizing the house while the couple was away and stayed for about 30 minutes before they returned and found him.
According to the LAPD, officers responded around 4 p.m. July 10 to the home in response to the report of someone jumping the fence, but found no immediate signs of an intruder or a burglary.
Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman said the victims were shot with their own gun.
Los Angeles police responded about 6:30 p.m. Saturday to the house next door to investigate a report of a loud party.
Officers shut down the party and cited the residents, according to Officer Jeffrey Miller of LAPD Media Relations.
“This party house would’ve been shut down in Beverly Hills, would’ve been shut down in Burbank, but in L.A. you can break the law and there’s no consequences,” Rob Glushon, the president of the Encino Property Owners Association, told KCAL9. “We’re very supportive of LAPD, but honestly they need to be tougher. This is an example of when something gets out of control because the law doesn’t get enforced when the problem starts.”
Area residents said the homeowner at the party house has been cited several times in the past, but they want further action and suspect the home is being rented out for parties.
One neighbor, however, told KNX that they would prefer to have loud parties in the area than a double murder.
Boodarian, meanwhile, remains jailed without bail pending his arraignment on Aug. 20.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office will decide later whether to seek the death penalty against Boodarian.
