A 39-year-old man was rescued Tuesday after falling down a shaft and becoming trapped for hours in downtown Los Angeles.
The incident was reported around 9:25 a.m. at 227 W. Ninth Street, according to Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman Lyndsey Lantz.
The man “reportedly experienced a long fall prior to being trapped for several hours,” Lantz said, adding that he was taken to a hospital in serious condition.
During the rescue, the fire department asked media helicopters to increase their distance from the scene, saying the noise from the rotor blades was interfering with crews’ efforts.
