At least five armed robbery suspects are in custody Tuesday after a botched robbery followed by a standoff with police at a cannabis dispensary near downtown Los Angeles.

Officers from the Los Angeles Police Department were called at approximately 4:40 p.m. Monday regarding a robbery and assault with a deadly weapon in the 1000 block of East 18th Street and Griffin Avenue, south of the Santa Monica (10) Freeway, LAPD Officer Kevin Terzes told City News Service

When officers arrived at the scene, the suspects fled further into the building and hid from the police, but police were able to detain two of the suspects, according to reports from the scene.

Officers requested a SWAT unit to come to the scene and a standoff ensued, Terzes said. SWAT teams searched the building and detained the remaining suspects at around 1 a.m. Tuesday, police said, ending the standoff.
