A 47-year-old woman was killed and three other people were injured in a head-on collision in San Jacinto, authorities said Wednesday.

The crash was reported at 4:22 p.m. Tuesday at Ramona Expressway, west of Sanderson Avenue, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

According to Sgt. Patrick Lynch, a vehicle was traveling westbound on Ramona Expressway when for an unknown reason it “crossed over the center line, colliding head-on with the second vehicle.”

Three occupants of one vehicle received medical care at the scene and were taken to a hospital with serious injuries, while the driver and sole occupant of the other vehicle was trapped and pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

On Wednesday, the fatal victim was identified by the Riverside County coroner’s office as Cynthia Medina of Beaumont.

A temporary road closure of Ramona Expressway between Sanderson Avenue and Warren Road has since been lifted.

The cause of the crash was under investigation.

Anyone with additional information about the fatal collision was asked to contact Corporal Cortez at 951-654-2702.
