Four armed robbery suspects were seriously injured Thursday after they allegedly robbed hundreds of dollars in merchandise from a smoke shop and then crashed a stolen car while Glendale police chased them, authorities said.
Officers responded just after 1 a.m. Thursday to a report of an armed robbery at the “818 Smoke Shop” at 838 West Glenoaks Boulevard, near Highland Avenue, according to the Glendale Police Department.
“The victim reported being robbed at gunpoint by four males, all dressed in black and armed with a firearm,” said Glendale Police Department spokesman Sgt. Jose Barajas. “The suspects fled the area in a black vehicle.”
A Glendale police officer spotted a vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle as it sped through red lights near Monterey Road and Geneva Street.
“The officer attempted a traffic stop, but the driver failed to yield, initiating a short vehicle pursuit,” Barajas said.
The vehicle crashed into an unoccupied parked car near Jackson Street and Lexington Drive and one of the suspects fled on foot, but was quickly chased down.
“Another suspect was ejected from the vehicle upon impact, while the remaining two suspects stayed at the scene and in the vehicle,” the sergeant said.
All four suspects had significant injuries and were taken to Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena.
“During the investigation, officers confirmed the …vehicle had been reported stolen,” Barajas said. “A firearm was recovered at the scene of the collision near Lexington Drive and Jackson Street. The identities and ages of the suspects have not yet been verified. ”
The investigation was ongoing and anyone with information about the suspects or the robbery and chase was urged to call the Glendale Police Department at 818-937-8888.
