A 42-year-old man was arrested Thursday in connection of a series of mail thefts in Studio City.
Detectives from the Los Angeles Police Department’s Van Nuys Community Police Station served a search warrant at the residence of the suspect, 42-year-old Sarkis Yaralyan of North Hollywood, around 11:40 a.m. Evidence related to the crimes was recovered there, police said.
Yaralyan was charged with assault with a deadly weapon.
On Tuesday around 11 p.m., Van Nuys Area patrol officers responded to a radio call of a burglary suspect at Valleyheart Drive and Longridge Avenue. When they arrived at the scene, officers encountered a victim and a large group of people.
The victim told police that the suspect matched images shared on a community chat site of a mail theft burglar in the area, police said.
As the victim was confronting the suspect regarding the recent burglaries, the suspect attempted to stab the victim. The victim and other civilians attempted to detain the suspect, but he fled prior to the officers’ arrival, police said.
Van Nuys Area detectives began an investigation, which led to Yaralyan’s identification and additional unreported mail theft burglaries in the immediate area, the LAPD said.
Yaralyan was booked for assault with a deadly weapon and held in lieu of $80,000 bail.
