Police sought witnesses Thursday to a fatal collision that took the life of a pedestrian as he walked a bicycle along a Long Beach street.

The collision was reported about 6:05 p.m. at the intersection of Pacific Place and Wardlow Road.

“When officers arrived, Long Beach Fire Department personnel were providing medical aid to the pedestrian,” according to a Long Beach Police Department statement.

Fire department personnel took the victim to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, police said.

“The preliminary investigation indicates the pedestrian was walking a bicycle eastbound across Pacific Place, outside of a crosswalk, when he was struck by a 2012 Toyota Corolla traveling northbound,” according to police, who said the driver stopped as required and did not appear to be driving while under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol. Excessive speed was also ruled out.

Anyone who may have witnessed the collision was urged to contact LBPD Collision Investigation Detail Detective Efrain Pineda at 562-570-7355.
