A bicyclist struck by a vehicle as he rode through a Hemet intersection died following two days under intensive care at a regional trauma center, authorities said Monday.

The victim, whose name was not immediately released, died Sunday, according to the Hemet Police Department.

The man was injured in the collision shortly after 6 p.m. Friday at Lincoln Avenue and Soboba Street, police said.

Investigators said the bicyclist was going eastbound on Lincoln Avenue when a driver headed northbound on Soboba Street ran into him.

The driver, whose name also was not disclosed, immediately stopped.

Hemet Fire Department paramedics initially believed the bicyclist’s injuries were moderate, but after he was taken to the hospital, he began to decline from internal damage, to which he ultimately succumbed, according to police.

The motorist was questioned and tested for possible intoxication, but alcohol was ruled out as a factor, police said.

The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information was asked to call the police Traffic Bureau at 951-765-2400.
