An armed man who barricaded himself inside an Arleta home for more than 10 hours was taken into custody without incident Monday.
Police were called about 12:51 a.m. Monday to Gruen Street and Canterbery Avenue on a report of a man with a gun, where they learned the suspect was armed and refusing to leave a residence, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
The man had allegedly threatened a family member inside the home, police said. The department’s SWAT team was called to the scene at around 4 a.m.
The man was taken into custody about 11 a.m., according to Officer Rosario Cervantes of the LAPD’s Media Relations Division.
Media reports indicated the suspect was armed with multiple firearms, including a rifle, and that his mother told police he had recently been released from the hospital and had threatened to shoot birds.
Police evacuated nearby residents during the standoff.
