A 31-year-old man pleaded guilty Friday and was sentenced to 12 years in prison for bank robberies in Orange County.

Che Hanief Lewis of Mission Viejo pleaded guilty to three counts of attempted robbery, two counts of robbery, two counts of possession of a controlled substance with the intent to sell and a count of being a prohibited person owning ammunition, all felonies.

Lewis was given credit for 420 days behind bars.

Lewis has a prior conviction for burglary in July 2013 in Los Angeles County.

Orange County Sheriff’s Department deputies, along with the assistance of the South Directed Enforcement Team personnel, located Lewis Aug. 23 of last year as he attempted a bank robbery in Anaheim, according to sheriff’s officials.

Lewis robbed a bank in Mission Viejo July 8, 2024, and on Aug. 8, 2024, in Ladera Ranch.
