Three suspects who were allegedly involved in a fatal shooting and later shot at sheriff’s deputies during a vehicle pursuit were taken into custody Wednesday morning after a search in a Compton neighborhood.

Deputies began pursuing the suspects after receiving a shots-fired call around 10:40 p.m. Tuesday and spotting their vehicle on the westbound Artesia (91) Freeway, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

That shooting, in the 1300 block of Long Beach Boulevard, between Alondra and Greenleaf boulevards, left one person dead, the sheriff’s department reported.

The suspects exited the freeway at Central Avenue in Compton, then drove to 139th Street and Parmlee Avenue, where they left their vehicle, LASD Deputy Tracy Koerner told City News Service.

During the pursuit, the suspects shot at the deputies several times, a department spokeswoman confirmed.

After exiting the vehicle, the suspects ran into the surrounding neighborhood and deputies established a perimeter in the 14100 block of South Zamora Avenue. The LASD’s Special Enforcement Bureau responded and took the suspect into custody around 5:50 a.m. Wednesday.

The names, ages and genders of the suspects and victim were not immediately available.
