A leak in a liquid nitrogen tank prompted a hazardous-materials response Thursday at a science building on the campus of USC.
The leak was reported around noon at the Frank R. Seaver Science Center at 920 Bloom Walk, according to USC and the Los Angeles Fire Department.
L.A. Fire Department and USC HazMat teams responded to the scene working and secured the tank by about 12:35 p.m., an LAFD spokeswoman said.
She described the situation as “static.”
No injuries were reported, and USC indicated there was no immediate danger — but people were nonetheless advised to avoid the area while crews worked to secure the tank.
Liquid nitrogen is used as a cooling and freezing agent in many laboratory applications.
