A man suspected of carjacking and kidnapping three children was arrested in Malibu Friday evening after allegedly leading law enforcement on a chase that began in East Los Angeles.

The chase ended when the stolen car driven by the kidnapping suspect T-boned a car on Pacific Coast Highway near Kanan Dume Road while driving approximately 90 mph around 7:40 p.m. Friday, KTLA reported.

One person was severely injured and three suffered minor to moderate injuries, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. They were all flown to a hospital by helicopter.

The suspect got out of the car following the collision, running into a wooded area. He was arrested near Portahead Road and Boniface Drive.

The chase was initially conducted by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, with the California Highway Patrol later taking over, CHP Sgt. Daniel Keene told City News Service.

Details leading up to the chase remain limited.

According to the Sheriff’s Information Bureau, deputies responded to the intersection of Arizona Street and Olympic Boulevard in East Los Angeles at approximately 6:38 p.m. Friday to reports regarding a kidnapping.

The suspect struck a pedestrian at the location with the stolen car before fleeing, authorities said.

The CHP was continuing its investigation Friday night.
