Firefighters managed to stop the spread of a half-acre brushfire in the San Pedro area of Los Angeles Sunday.

The fire was reported at 3:42 p.m. Sunday in the 900 block of North Gaffey Street, according to Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman Margaret Stewart. It was moving up a hill toward homes.

The fire’s forward progress was reported stopped at 4:11 p.m., Stewart said. “Firefighters have lines in place completely around the fire perimeter and are moving into the mop-up phase.”

Despite the heat, the effort was aided by wind that was light, if at all, she said. “No structures damaged and no injuries reported.”
