T-Bone Accident in Van Nuys Leaves One Dead, Several Injured

A 40-year-old woman was killed and three men were injured when one vehicle T-boned another in a Van Nuys intersection early Wednesday morning.

The collision was reported at 1:45 a.m. Wednesday at Van Nuys and Burbank boulevards, a Los Angeles Police Department spokeswoman told City News Service.

Arriving officers learned a Honda Civic was eastbound on Burbank Boulevard when it went through a red light and struck the driver’s side of the second vehicle, a Mercedez-Benz C300, which was heading north on Van Nuys Boulevard near a Ralphs parking lot, police said.

The woman at the wheel of the Mercedes was pronounced dead at the scene.

A man, approximately 40 years old, was in critical condition when taken to a hospital.

Two others, both 25-year-old men, were also taken to a hospital. One was in serious condition and the other sustained minor injuries and was in fair condition, all three men were in the Honda, according to the LAPD’s Valley Traffic Division, which was investigating the collision.

As police and rescuers were responding to the scene, another vehicle rolled through police tape and its driver was arrested on suspicion of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, an officer said.

The intersection remained closed Wednesday morning.

Video from the scene showed two wrecked vehicles, one in the street and another in front of a Chipotle restaurant.
