An investigation of the kidnapping of a 1-year-old boy allegedly taken from his mother at knifepoint in the city of Industry is underway Monday after the child was found in a minivan with at least three suspects in Winslow, Arizona.
California Highway Patrol spokeswoman Elizabeth Kravig confirmed to City News Service that Enzo Antonescu had been located and at least two of the three suspects were taken into custody on abduction charges.
Reports indicated the baby was located on Sunday, but Kravig was unable to immediately supply the full details of the victim’s recovery and the suspects’ apprehension. It was also unclear if authorities recovered the knife that was alleged to have been employed in the abduction, or any other weapons.
Kravig said an earlier Amber Alert issued on behalf of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department was canceled.
According to the LASD, the CHP issued the Amber Alert after Dragan Antonescu and his parents allegedly kidnapped Enzo Antonescu around noon Sunday at a Target store at 17751 Colima Road, south of the Pomona (60) Freeway.
The 20-year-old suspect held a knife while his father — 48-year-old Viorel Lllie — and his mother — 40-year-old Marioara Llie — “physically assaulted” the baby’s mother and abducted the child, Sgt. W. LeFever of the Industry Sheriff’s Station told CNS.
The three suspects fled with the baby in a dark gray 2011 Toyota Sienna minivan with California license plate 9SLF463, according to the LASD. A sheriff’s bulletin stated Dragon Antonescu was armed and considered dangerous at the time of the abduction.
Various news outlets reported Arizona state troopers located the minivan around 9 p.m. Sunday and all three suspects were taken into custody.
The baby’s mother, whose name was withheld, was taken by ambulance to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries sustained in the alleged assault, LeFever said.
