A pursuit suspect was taken to a hospital Monday at the end of a chase in Santa Monica stemming from a felony investigation.
Officers from the Santa Monica Police Department assisted the Los Angeles Police Department with a felony investigation at about 3:20 p.m., according to SMPD spokesman Lt. Lewis Gilmour. Gilmour said officers located the suspect’s vehicle and attempted a traffic stop, but the driver fled. It was unclear exactly where the pursuit began.
The chase came to an end near Fourth and Strand streets, where the suspect was taken into custody and officers determined the person was suffering from an unspecified injury.
According to a report from the scene, there was blood on the ground near the possibly stolen vehicle involved in the pursuit.
Gilmour said the person’s injury was not the result of any actions taken by police, and it was likely sustained prior to the attempted traffic stop and pursuit.
The driver was administered medical aid at the scene before being taken to a hospital by Santa Monica Fire Department paramedics.
The investigation was being led by the LAPD, with no further threat to the community, Gilmour said.
