Police in El Monte Friday are investigating an officer-involved shooting that left at least one person dead.

El Monte Police Department officers responded to a domestic violence call around 10:30 p.m. at a gas station at Garvey and Durfee avenues, Fox 11 reported.

Video from the scene showed several police cruisers surrounding a red Honda sedan, which showed the passenger door nearly torn off.

Few details were immediately known, but according to reports from the scene, police were engaged in a pursuit with a suspect when the officer-involved shooting occurred near the gas station.

One person was pronounced dead at scene and video from the scene showed a woman being loaded into an ambulance, ABC 7 reported.

Officers remained at the scene into the early morning hours on Friday with police tape surrounding the gas station.

An El Monte PD spokesman would not comment on the details surrounding the shooting, but told City News Service because it involved a police shooting, the California Department of Justice will be in charge of the investigation.
