A man struck by a vehicle while crossing the street in Palm Springs died, police announced Saturday.

The crash was reported around 9:35 p.m. Friday near the intersection of Palm Canyon Drive and Via Las Palmas in a marked crosswalk near the intersection, the police department reported.

According to the police department, the crosswalk is equipped with a lighting system intended to alert drivers of pedestrians, which was not used at the time of the crash.

Investigators believe the pedestrian was a man visiting from out of state who was crossing eastbound when he was struck by a southbound vehicle.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Neither drugs nor alcohol appeared to be a factor in the crash.

No additional identifying information was immediately available for the pedestrian or the driver.
