A multi-county Silver Alert is in effect Monday for a 89-year-old man last seen in Compton.
Benjamin Smith was last seen at approximately 1:30 p.m. Sunday at South Cliveden Avenue and West Caldwell Street, according to the California Highway Patrol, which issued the alert on behalf of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Smith is Black, 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighs 140 pounds, has gray hair, brown eyes and wears glasses. Authorities say Smith is believed to be driving a green 1999 Toyota Tacoma with a California license plate 5Z79778.
According to the LASD, Smith suffers from dementia and requires medication.
The alert was issued for Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, Ventura and San Bernardino counties.
Anyone who has seen Smith or knows of his whereabouts was asked to call 911.
The CHP established the Silver Alert program to issue and coordinate alerts involving the unexplained or suspicious disappearances of elderly, developmentally disabled or cognitively impaired individuals.
