An investigation was underway Tuesday into a collision involving two pickup trucks in the community of Oasis that left a driver with major injuries.

The crash was reported at about 1 p.m. Sunday on Harrison Street south of 70th Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A 34-year-old man driving a 2005 Dodge Dakota “unsafely entered an intersection with Harrison Street from Polk Street in an northeasterly direction” while an 82-year-old man driving a 2018 Toyota Tacoma was traveling south on Harrison Street, CHP Officer David Torres said.

Both vehicles sustained major damage after impact. The Dodge driver was airlifted to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs, while the Tacoma driver did not sustain any injuries, according to authorities.

The Dodge driver was suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, Torres said.

Neither driver was identified.
