Two people were killed in a fiery crash and two others were hospitalized Friday when their vehicle struck an electrical pole in North Hollywood.

Los Angeles Fire Department personnel responded at 1:43 a.m. Friday to 11615 W. Vanowen St., south of Lemp Avenue, where they learned the silver vehicle was being driven westbound on Vanowen in the center median then went off the road and struck an electrical pole and several parked cars, a Los Angeles Police Department spokesman told City News Service.

Firefighters used hydraulic tools to extricate victims from the vehicle.

A 30-year-old man in the left rear passenger seat was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police and fire department representatives.

A 25-year-old man was listed in critical condition when taken to a hospital, according to LAFD spokeswoman Lyndsey Lantz.

Two other men were also taken to a hospital. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office later reported two fatalities in connection with the crash and identified one of the victims as 18-year-old Jonathan Dicristofaro.

The cause of the initial crash was not immediately known.
