A 27-year-old man was arrested Friday for allegedly shooting a person in Rancho Mirage.

Following a monthlong investigation, Jesse John Romero III of Palm Springs was arrested and booked into Benoit Detention Center in Indio on Friday on suspicion of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

His bail was set at $1 million.

Deputies responded to a report about 1 a.m. Sept. 27 near the intersection of Bob Hope and Country Club drives regarding an assault with a deadly weapon.

They located a victim nearby who had sustained a gunshot wound and was later taken to a local hospital in stable condition. No other injuries were reported in the area.

Authorities identified Romero as the suspect, who was arrested without incident about 1 a.m. Friday in the 28000 block of Landau Boulevard in Cathedral City, the department stated.

The identity of the victim was not revealed, and his motive behind the alleged shooting was not immediately known. It was not clear how authorities identified Romero as the suspect.
