A man was shot and killed in Hawthorne early Wednesday morning, the second fatal shooting in the city in the span of a few days.

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department homicide detectives were dispatched to assist Hawthorne police after the death was reported about 2:15 a.m. in the 14100 block of Doty Avenue, north of Rosecrans Avenue.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

His name and age were not immediately available.

It was the second fatal shooting in Hawthorne this week.

Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau investigators are also assisting the Hawthorne Police Department regarding a shooting death that happened on Sunday.

In that case, possibly a drive-by attack., a man was shot at 7 p.m. Sunday while sitting on the patio of a Hawthorne sports bar in the 13700 block of South Inglewood Avenue.

That man was also pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities did not immediately release his name, but family members identified him to CBS LA as 35-year-old Anthony Jackson Jr.

The station reported that the victim was shot in the head by a suspect who fired shots from a vehicle outside The Greatest bar. The station, citing relatives of the victim, reported that the man was sitting on the front patio of the bar with other members of his fantasy football league.

According to the CBS LA report, a fight occurred inside the bar, and a person involved was thrown out of the establishment, then apparently opened fire while driving away, striking the victim. Jackson was not involved in the original fight, relatives told CBS LA.
