A Silver Alert is in effect Friday in Los Angeles County for a 78-year old man last seen in North Hollywood.

Shogo Wakamatsu was last seen leaving his home around 11:30 p.m Wednesday in the 12600 block of Willard Street, near Strathern Park North, the Los Angeles Police Department announced.

Wakamatsu is Japanese, stands 4 feet, 7 inches tall, and weighs approximately 90 pounds. He was last seen wearing a purple sweatshirt, blue sweatpants, black socks and no shoes, police said.

Wakamatsu possibly suffers from undiagnosed dementia, police said.

The Silver Alert was activated by the California Highway Patrol Thursday on behalf of the LAPD.

The CHP established the Silver Alert program to issue and coordinate alerts involving the unexplained or suspicious disappearances of elderly, developmentally disabled or cognitively impaired individuals.

Anyone who has seen Wakamatsu or knows of his whereabouts was asked to call the Foothill Area watch commander at 818-756-8861 or dial 911. During non-business hours or on weekends, calls should be made to 1-877-527-3247.

Anyone wishing to remain anonymous should call the Los Angeles Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or go directly to www.lacrimestoppers.org.
