A Silver Alert was activated Tuesday in Los Angeles and Orange counties on behalf of an 84-year-old man diagnosed with dementia last seen in Paramount.

Manuel Vargas was last seen at 6 a.m. Monday on the 16500 block of Garfield Avenue, near Jackson Street, according to the California Highway Patrol, which activated the alert on behalf of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Vargas is Latino, 5 feet, 7 inches tall, weighs 150 pounds, has gray hair and brown eyes, according to the Sheriff’s Information Bureau. He was last seen wearing a white long sleeve button up shirt, blue jeans and black shoes. Authorities said Vargas has a possible destination of Long Beach.

Anyone who has seen Vargas or knows of his whereabouts was asked to call 911.

The CHP established the Silver Alert program to issue and coordinate alerts involving the unexplained or suspicious disappearances of elderly, developmentally disabled or cognitively impaired individuals.
